The City of Vandalia Public Works Department is staffed by 20 dedicated and highly trained individuals whose goal is to provide our citizens with efficient, honest and courteous service in the most cost effective manner possible.
The Public Works Department staff is, likewise, responsible for a broad range of tasks including street maintenance, snow removal, traffic sign/signal/striping maintenance, maintenance of water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, operation of Poplar Hill Cemetery, street sweeping, leaf collection, etc.
The majority of these activities are either directly or indirectly related to issues affecting public health and safety. We, therefore, take these matters very seriously and do our best to assure compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Please give our Public Works Department crews (in their orange shirts and trucks) a "brake" by driving slowly and cautiously through their work zones on the streets for both their safety and your own.
We are pleased to be able to provide these services to our residents. Over the years, comments received from our citizens have enabled us to improve our efficiency, provide better services, implement safety improvements, etc. and we welcome any constructive suggestions which you might have.
